CONNECTA findings and recommendations on Rail Maintenance presented at the Railways Technical Committee meeting

The second meeting of the Technical Committee on Railways under Transport Community took place in Belgrade on 18 September. The importance of the rail action plan aiming to modernize the rail transport in the Western Balkans is reconfirmed.

Development of the regional rail strategy that will help the Western Balkans to revitalize rail transport along the key TEN-T corridors is one of the priorities identified and agreed at the Western Balkans Summit held in July, 2019 in Poznan.

The railway infrastructure maintenance and its management is one of the key drivers of railway infrastructure costs. To support the WB partners in planning and programming infrastructure maintenance, the CONNECTA team carried out the assessment of institutional and budgetary framework(s) for the rail maintenance, proposed the best practice solutions with regard to the situation in the Western Balkans, and prepared the Five Year Maintenance Plans. The main findings were presented during the Technical Committee on Railways meeting within the Rail Asset Management System prepared by former CONNECTA expert.
